The story behind the firm, and the two people who built it
Kotzenberg & Nieman Registered Accountants and Auditors was established in 2020 by two enthusiastic and driven professionals who shared a common goal: to build a firm that puts genuine client relationships ahead of transactional compliance work.
Our roots go back to a Hendrina-based practice led by Heleen Nieman, PA(SA), a registered tax practitioner who had already spent years building a loyal client base across the local farming and small business community. In 2020, Heleen's path crossed with that of Johalisé Kotzenberg, CA(SA), and the partnership that followed became the foundation of the firm you see today.
Together, they expanded the practice's footprint by establishing a second office in Middelburg — giving clients across the region two accessible, well-connected points of contact.
Between them, our partners bring over 12 years of combined experience in practice, spanning accounting, auditing, taxation and business advisory work. That experience shows up not in jargon, but in the practical, no-nonsense advice we give clients every day — the kind that comes from having actually sat across the table from business owners working through real financial decisions.
Today, Kotzenberg & Nieman operates from two offices — Hendrina and Middelburg — allowing us to serve clients across Mpumalanga with the personal attention of a small firm and the technical capability of a much larger one. We are registered with the relevant professional bodies, and both partners hold formal designations: Heleen as a PA(SA) and registered tax practitioner, and Johalisé as a CA(SA).
What hasn't changed since our founding is the belief that shaped it: that a good accounting firm should feel less like a service provider and more like a partner who is genuinely invested in your success.
